After the tour we had a brief stroll through the market where both Morgan and Lis purchased some souvenirs, but I resisted (I know I was surprised I didn't buy anything either).
Following our return to our vehicle we began our trip to Savannah, which is the stop I have been looking the most forward to. We decided to try to take a scenic route; however, this appears to be more difficult than one would think as most of the roads are simply lined with trees. Morgan suggested we take a stop at a beach and it was decided we would go to Hunting Island State Park.
We arrived with little to no difficulty, pulled off the highway and into JURASSIC PARK!!! Seriously I was afraid the entire time that a T-Rex or one of those little dinosaurs with the fans around their heads that shoot venom were going to come racing out in front of the car at any moment! We got to the beach which was beautiful. The trees pretty much came right up to the water which was a new experience for me and I believe for the other two as well. So after a walk on the beach where we saw dead jellyfish and Lis found a lovely shell we headed over to the lighthouse. I almost forgot to mention when coming back from the beach Morgan and I with our combined masses of intelligence burnt our feet in the sand. Yup so much for those Master's Degrees and supervisory experience.
At this point I will admit that I was getting grumpy as I was hungry and going through caffeine withdrawal. I am very proud of how Lis and Morgan put up with me. So once we got out of the Land of the Dinosaurs we headed for lunch. We found a Sonic where I ordered a coney hot dog that turned out the be a foot long. Their slogan for this was that their coney dog was "longer and plumper." I have to admit that I could not finish my coney dog...it was just too much for me. At this point the dark horse in the belching contest pulled into the lead. That's right, Morgan was letting them rip Homer Simpson style, lips waving and all! It was a true surprise. I am now in last place in the contest but have every hope of making my come back.
After a little more driving we arrived at our hotel in Savannah which is totally cute. Our room has a sitting room and a lovely fridge and microwave. The lobby in the hotel is very bistro and has a set of sky lights and a fountain.
That night we were signed up for a ghost tour of Savannah, which in hindsight probably should have done on the night before we leave, but I will get to why in a minute. So we arrive at the location we are to meet our tour guide. As others start to arrive we notice that there is a car from Pennsylvania, because we of course can't get away from our peoples. A black mustang pulls up with a license plate in reference to ghosts and we thought this was our tour guide...the doors open and we see a lot of shoe heel, which worries me because as we all know you can't run fast in heels let alone walk around for years in them. But no they are not our tour guides he is running late...and then he arrived in all his glory. He was dressed ala Welcome back Cotter. We are talking full on 70's regalia and a (and please excuse this un-PC comment) Jew fro. I could not hold back my laughter. We then proceeded on the ghost tour which I found to be a lot more interesting than the ghost tour me and my family had taken in Gettysburg, PA. He had a lot of stories to go with the houses and we even stopped at some points just to learn parts of the history. At some points it was really creepy. Such as the Espy House where there is a "Hag" that attacks and stills your life spirit and the last house which is simply called 432. At this house there had been a child that died of heat stroke because her father strapped her to a chair as punishment for playing with the African American kids. He left sitting in front of a window for three days. There was also a unsolved murder of 3 little girls there in the late 60's which is what really creeped me out. Mostly because due to my own experiences (especially at the prison) I could picture all of it clearly in my head. By the end of the tour we were all a little weirded out so we headed for dinner.
As an act of desperation and a little bit of the familiar we ate at Chilis this night. We ate sparingly for all three of us, but it did seem to mellow us out. Morgan did not have the best experience as she found a bug in her water, but that was quickly remedied.
We then headed back to the hotel and to bed. We were all very, very tired.
