We had a nice relaxing morning today. We then made our way to the Bonaventure Cemetery. We luckily could drive around the place, because it is huge compared to some of our cemeteries. It was also quite beautiful with many Live Oak trees that dripped with Spanish Moss and beautiful marble sculptures of angels, flowers, and people. We saw the famous Little Gracie and Morgan got a picture of John Mercer's grave. We then went into town to take our trolley tour which is billed as being an "on/off tour," however, we found this to not be true. You had to take the 90 minute tour on the trolley all at once and then they dumped you at the market. If you wanted to go somewhere else you needed to call a shuttle to come pick you up at one of the designated spots. Only trouble with that is sometimes they lied to you and told you someone was coming when they weren't. Oddly enough when we needed to go back and get the car because the tour company was going to be ceasing their services for the day we called and then went into an ice cream shop to get some yummies, the stupid shuttle showed up right away and only Lis got her ice cream.
Almost forgot to mention! When we paid for our trolley tour I used my PSECU Visa which for those of you that don't know has the picture of the state capitol building on it. The lady taking the card asked me if it was a picture of the Vatican. I had to explain to her that no that is not one of the most iconic building in the world, but the state capitol building of Pennsylvania. And no that is not a cross at the top of the building but William Penn. But it is good to know that we can compete with the Vatican. GO PA!
Eventually we got to lunch at the Mellow Mushroom, which is a fantabulous pizza parlor ala the 60's Yellow Submarine and all. I delighted in my pineapple and mushroom pizza although Morgan was upset because she couldn't have her gluten free pizza. The waitress was wonderful and took good care of us.
After replenishing our strength we went to visit the local Catholic Church which I am sure Lis will discuss in her blog. I am going to keep it short by saying it was very pretty and worth your time to have a look.
After this we made our way to the birth place of Juliet Gordon Lowe's house where we caught the last tour. The tour was all of 15 minutes and you saw around 9 rooms. It did have a lot of information about the family and we got to tour the small garden which we are told has a agave plant (per Morgan's mom after we sent her a picture for verification). Apparently this is what they use to make Tequila...so I am wondering why she had it in her garden????
After this we trekked down to the riverfront. We strolled along enjoying the shops, vendors, and splendor of the riverfront trying our darnedest to keep away from the millions upon millions of teenagers that were there for their own tour (I might be exaggerating the number to some degree). At this time Morgan and I got our ice cream. :-) We wondered around for awhile and then decided to go to the restaurant that we had decided on for the night.
Kevin Barry's--An Irish Pub
At Kevin Barry's there is live music every night starting at 8pm. Real Irish music. If you have read Lis' post you got all the glorious details so I will simply leave you with some video of her enjoying the "atmosphere."
